Acquisitiveness, riches and idleness had finally trapped her. Commodification of self had been her ultimate sacrifice. She placed herself and her acquisition on show, she stopped moving forwards, her life became still... She could no longer dwell in that soft well upholstered cell.”

Focusing on the objectification of the human body resulted in these pieces that represent refined self containment and a foreboding interiority. I aimed to create works that despite their superficial refinement, are not necessarily pleasant. By applying the technique of deep buttoning, and referencing the style that is characteristic of inanimate furnishings of the Victorian bourgeoisie. I referred to the old and familiar styles of this era of artifice, to represent the body subjected to the same alienating status as inert, lifeless objects.
